Wow. Just as the Rockies in the US had their Mountain Men, Canada had Jack Hornby. Early in his life he fell in love with the Barrens area of the North West Territories, and much of his life was spent disappearing into it. This book was written in 1930, from the diaries, letters, and recollections of James C. Critchell-Bullock who spent a year surviving in the Barrens with Hornby. He must have been an amazingly charismatic man, to get people to follow him into the wastes for a chance to live by their wits in an inhospitable enviornment.
Very interesting.
Very interesting.
