From the back cover
Get ready to cheer for Rose Lloyd, a woman of young middle age who proves that starting over doesn't have an age limit. After 25 years spent juggling husband, career, and kids with admirable success, Rose suddenly finds both her marriage and her job in unexpected ruin. Forced to begin a new life, she is at first terrified, then energized by her newfound freedom--it's amazing what prolonged reflection, a little weight loss, a new slant on independence and some Parisian lingerie will do for the psyche! Insightful and full of a wonderful sense of the absurd, this triumphant novel will strike a chord with anyone who has ever wondered what Middle Age would look like from the other side of the looking glass.

Very enjoyable book. More realistic than most books of this type, with a satisfactory ending.
Thanks for sharing, Penny-n-Chaos!

I have been on vacation and catching up with work-- this arrived in the mail at the beginning of this week. Looking forward to starting this book tomorrow!!

I enjoyed reading this book as it was a light and quick read- Just the kind of relaxing book that I can devour in a day. I liked the main character, but I got frustrated with how much she "let go". I know that I would have reacted a lot more crazily if my world fell apart...

I found myself skimming through some parts in the middle that felt repetitive or too predictable, but I liked the way the book ended... I don't want to give anything away for future readers... not that there is much to give away... but it felt realistic to me. Not sappy, devestating, or happy. Just realistic.

Off to the next on the list very soon!!

Can't wait to read...especially since everyone has indicated that they read it quickly and aren't willing to give away the details.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel! Rose Lloyd is a character of the most ordinary kind. She lives an ordinary life and has ordinary things happen to her and she overcomes them in ordinary ways. It is the true genius of Elizabeth Buchan who makes all of this ordinary story so compelling to read. This book is written with style, grace and utter charm. My only gripe is that Rose often loses herself in her memories and at times I had trouble separating the past from the present. But, this is a very real story with a just fine ending. A lovely book!

Thanks to Penny-n-Chaos for sharing this with all of us!

I am going to send this out to Jackie700 this morning!

I received this book in the mail today. It looks like fun!

This book is much better than I expected....a pleasant surprise! Rose is a very believable character, albeit more forgiving and generous of spirit than I think most women in her situation would be. Elizabeth Buchan makes the reader care about what happens to Rose, and doesn't make the mistake of tying everything up in a neat package at the end. Thanks, Penny-n-Chaos for sharing!

I will send it out as soon as I have ryanreader's address.

Received in the mail from ryanreader - thanks!

8/9/04 - I started to read this during my commute (bus) last Friday morning, continued with it on the way home, then *HAD* to stay up Friday night and finish it - I'm not sure why it was so compelling, but I couldn't get away from it! Don't want to give anything away, so I'll just say that I think this was really well-written and believable; I think I know some of these women! Thanks so much for sharing.

8/14/04 - mailed to Zarylia

Warsaw/Poland - Got this in the mail and it looks delightful! Unfortunately though I have quite a few bookrings here in front of it. Be that as it may, I'll try not to keep this too long. Thanks everyone! :-D

Warsaw/Poland - Very satisfactory book. And even though I've had the book for awhile I read it in about 3 days. :-D Rose is a lovely character, very realistic, though she did seem a bit passive at times. I really liked how the story unfolded and how Elizabeth Buchan managed to weave in the past along side the present. My one complaint would have to be that I wished some of the other characters were more fully developed. Not that they weren't well developed, it's just that I was left wanting to get to know them better. Especially her French friend who's name I cannot remember at the moment...I know it starts with and 'M'. :-D Anyway, lovely book, lovely ending, I would definitely recommend it.

It is currently on it's way to sgscarcliff in California. Enjoy!

I just received. I have 2 bookrings in front of this but I will get to it shortly and let it continue on its way.

Journal Entry 20 by wingsgscarcliffwing on Thursday, December 30, 2004
I am ready to mail off, just waiting for mailing addrss.

I enjoyed the book. As they say the best revenge is living well. Nathan and Minty definitely got more than they bargained for.

I plan on reading other books by Elizabeth Buchan. I like the chic lit type book, and it is nice to see the main character as something besides a whiney 20 something year old girl.

I can't seem to get into this right now, despite the number of people I've talked to who love it. I've picked it up a dozen times, and I'm still not up to page 50. Rather than continue to hold up the ring, I'm going to send it on and pick up a library copy later. Thanks for sharing!
