Tomato Girl

Told from the perspective of a young girl, Jayne Pupek's novel, Tomato Girl was a tragic but compelling story. While I'm not always a fan of stories told from the eyes of a child, this author had a way of pulling you in and giving you a glimpse into the day to day tragedies of one little girl, even when she didn't quite understand the full implications of what is happening. (Spoiler alert... stop here if you don't want it) I was not surprised to find out on the back cover that the author was a social worker! This story screams social work themes and does not tie up with a "happy ending," although there is some element of hope.
