Last line from The Lieutenant. Although written after The Secret River, The Lieutenant was set before it and was more enjoyable. The plot and characters were more interesting, especially Daniel and Tagaran. I liked reading about their friendship and how the two taught each other to communicate in their different languages. As with The Secret River, this was a sad read but Grenville’s lovely writing makes it well worth the read.
