Watership Down was one of my favorite books as a child. I recently re-read it and found it to be just as outstanding as I remember. Originally published in England in 1972, Watership Down later became a worldwide best seller when published in America. Who would have thought a book about rabbits could be so complex and thought provoking? If you haven't read this excellent book, you are missing out on what I consider to be one of the greatest literary works of the last 50 years.

I got an extra copy today and plan to send it out as a bookray if anyone is interested. PM me to get your name on the list.

I read this book nearly 18 years ago when I was in the 8th grade. I remember when my teacher told us were going to read this long book about rabbits I was like "oh boy, this is going to be so boring". But, after I started reading the book, I really enjoyed it. When I saw the request a few weeks ago for the bookring, I though I'd join it so I could read it again and see if I would enjoy it as an adult. Well, I did! This is such a great book. You can just read it as a bunch of rabbits having an adventure and don't look for any deeper meaning, or you can really dig into it and see all sorts of commentary about life and societies.

I sent the book out yesterday to glowingdove.

I am presuming that this copy is lost as I have not been able to contact one of the list participants in quite some time. Never fear! I have a new copy ready to continue the bookray.

The new copy's journal entries can be found at:

Update: This original copy has been received and journaled and is therefore back in circulation. I am making this one the USA copy, as I have already sent the replacement to Europe.
