Robert Goddard is a master of the mystery genre. Beware - if you read one of his books, you'll probably want to read them all 13 or 14 off the reel.

The plot in this story moves between rural England and the enchanting island of Madeira. It was my first Goddard, read shortly after returning from Madeira, and I have since read them all.
