Tales from Malgudi (Penguin 60s S.)

I'd never heard of R.K. Narayan, one of the first Indian novelists to write in English and touch the English-speaking world, until very recently. Reading through this delightful book, I see that I've missed quite a lot. These are remarkable stories filled with insight, humor and love. The rich world and characters Narayan creates in these brief tales make for wondrous storytelling. I want to read all of his work now and to immerse myself in his fictional Malgudi, which is so much like my American South because it is a universal place.
Here's a long-delayed gift, meant for lils74 seven years ago. I hope lils74 that you'll enjoy these marvelous tales as much as I have. Blessings!

Excellent, insightful writing. I liked the way things usually worked out satisfactorily, though often unexpectedly, except for the last story, which hit me wrong as a way to end. How the author kept all the stories loosely interconnected I also found really interesting as a style.
