From amazon.co.uk:

An international bestseller and the novel of the year, ‘Freedom’ is an epic of contemporary love and marriage.

This is the story of the Berglunds, their son Joey, their daughter Jessica and their friend Richard Katz. It is about how we use and abuse our freedom; about the beginning and ending of love; teenage lust; the unexpectedness of adult life; why we compete with our friends; how we betray those closest to us; and why things almost never work out as they ‘should’. It is a story about the human heart, and what it leads us to do to ourselves and each other.

It's a contemporary story about a dysfunctional family and their misadventures all over the years. I like Franzens style, and I look forward to reading more of him.

It took me a long time to start this book, and also quite long to read it - it was thick, and the book itself is not the easiest - but I loved it Franzen is so good, I enjoyed every moment of it!

Thank you Chania! I'm sorry you had to wait for the journal - I wasn't at home.

Hmm, this is thick and in English.. it's going to take a while to read this. But it sounds good. Franzen is new to me so I don't know what to expect.

Phuuh, finished about a month ago. I didn't like all the cheating going on in the story. But I enjoyed the family history told by family members and their closest friends.

Franzen's books are good, so I just had to pick up this from our meeting.

This book has been waiting its turn to be read for some years because it has been in one of numerous boxes after my many relocations.

But once I started reading it, wow was it a great read. Seemingly it tells the story of one family and not a very happy family at that. Reader is given a background to the dysfunctional side of generations of Berglund family. And of course there is the mirror character of Richard Katz who most definitely does not have a family, although he is like a some kind of family member of the Berglund's. Then there is also the whole American society and culture and the changes that happen in it.

The book is over 700 hundred pages, but then you need all those pages, but somehow I was still disappointed in the end, I still had a lot of questions about the characters and what happened to them.

All in all, a very nice book with many important themes and how I loved the title also: Freedom. Made me really think about it.

I hope whoever finds the book will enjoy it as much as I did!
