Danke schön! Zerlesene Haifischfrauen sind verschwunden, eine nagelneue Emma ist gekommen. Ich freu mich schon aufs Lesen!
It took me quite a while to read this book, much longer than any other novel of Jane Austen took me, but maybe because this is the first one I read in English. It is surprising, how well it is to read, although the novel has ben written almost 200 years ago (published in 1815) it is still very charming, funny and understandable. I would really recommend it!
I found it interesting, how the times have changed even in very small topics, e.g. the book goes on and on about how the ladies are not supposed to leave the house when its raining- for not to get cold- or how the problem of draught in a ballroom is discussed over pages.
And what is it about:
Emma has been described as a "mystery story without a murder". The eponymous heroine is the charming (but perhaps too clever for her own good) Emma Woodhouse, who manages to deceive herself in a number of ways (including as to who is really the object of her own affections), even though she (and the reader) are often in possession of evidence pointing toward the truth. The book describes a year in the life of the village of Highbury and its vicinity, portraying many of the various inhabitants.
Thank you, allbookedup, because again, without Bookcrossing, I´m sure, I had not read the book!
