This is the first collected volume of the Mouse Guard series. This series takes place in a universe with no humans, but several intelligent animal species. Of main importance is the medieval-like civilization of the mice. The mice are intelligent, but still mice, that is, far from the top of the food chain. Their loosely confederated city states are guarded by the usually selfless, even self-sacrificing, individuals of the mouse guard of the title.. This series gets better in volume two, but this volume also has its moments.

This is a good read, with just enough story between the drawings to make it both interesting and beautiful to look at.. First in the series about the Mice Guard, it portraits the harsh lives of the mice and their brave Guards whom keep them safe in travels and in their homes.

Found it yesterday and will 'release' it back out there today.

Pick i up and give it a try. It's worth it.
