I bought this book at a thirft shop last week but haven't read it yet. It looks like something I'll enjoy so it's going on my TBR shelf for now. Will journal it after reading.
This is the story of Sarah, a ten-year old Jewish girl living in Paris, who was taken along with her parents by the French police as they went door-to-door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night on July 16th, 1942. Thousands of Jews were rounded up that night and taken to Vel' d'Hiv', a temporary 'camp', where families members were then separated and dispersed to Auschwitz. Sarah escapes . . .
Fast forward to 2002 and another story is being told of a family who is about to occupy the apartment where Sarah lived those many years ago on the night she was taken. The author weaves the two stories together in a way that one cannot easily forget. This is a story of love, courage, and determination that will captivate from cover to cover--by far the best book I've read this year.
It's going to bkitten in North Carolina.

Forgot to rate this book when I journaled yesterday so this entry is for that purpose. I'm still thinking about this book and hope the next one I read is just as good!
Brought to me by my friend, fairfaxgirl. I didn't want to put it down until it was finished. I had no idea what had happened to the Jews in France during the Holocost, and this is the story of a 10 year-old girl whose family was one of those involved. I won't soon forget this book.
This book will be going to friends at the Senior Center in Dallas.
At first I didn't like the going back and forth but soon realized why. I enjoyed the history of the book. I knew about the Holocaust in WWI but didn't know about this round-up. Very informative.
