Before start reading this book, I did read synopsis and knew what I was going to read about, but it was still shocking. Because of his writing style with lots of humor, it was also funny and somewhat enjoyable. Without his humor, it could had been a very tough and painful book to read. I understand that it was memoir, so everything was written in the author's point of view, not necessarily the fact. However, it doesn't mean everything is fiction. I am glad that the author had this talent to survive his boyhood, and I am also glad that I read this book.
Oh, I just learned that his brother is John Elder Robinson who wrote "Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's". Apparently, writing talent ran in the family I suppose.

"Caught" this in the mail yesterday as a Wishlist RABCK! Thank you!

2003 Picador trade paperback of the 2002 NYT Bestseller. This was on my list of best modern books to read.

I can let this go after I read:
2000 Sellevision [not yet read]

Edit March 6, 2016: Free bookcrossing labels were tucked inside throughout this book, for my use on new books, thank you, very nice! This was shocking in the level of family depravity. But it makes sense that this slice of life is a collection of mental illness and loose behavior, together with intellectual talents. So crazy attracts crazy, and it figures that it could become a weird family dynamic like this, because nobody ever really says stop it. On the other hand, I wonder if some of it is more than a bit of a series of "stretchers" along the lines of James Frey. And this does not get challenged as much as the Frey book, because of the politics. But the author here does carry through with dark humor and a clean narrative style that makes this very readable. I currently have this ranked at #286 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
