From amazon.com:
She's just a New York City girl living with her artist mom...
News Flash: Dad is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo meets her at the airport!)
Downer: Dad can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.)
Shock of the Century: Like it or not, Mia Thermopolis is prime princess material.
Mia must take princess lessons from her dreaded grandmére, the dowager princess of Genovia, who thinks Mia has a thing or two to learn before she steps up to the throne.
Well, her father can lecture her until he's royal-blue in the face about her princessly duty -- no way is she moving to Genovia and leaving Manhattan behind. But what's a girl to do when her name is Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo?

It's been a while since I laughed out loud when I read a book and this one totally did it for me! (Sorry, still in the mindset and vernacular of a teen.) I haven't seen the movie yet but I think I might have to. I really enjoyed this light reading and recommend it to anyone who needs a break from reality or a trip down memory lane, kind of.
Sent to Beatchik in a trade!
Just got this in the mail today. Thanks for sending it, TheMarina! On to the TBR pile it goes! :)
I so very much enjoyed this book as the quick one-day read it was. It was like taking a little vacation to back to high school with a little fairy tale thrown in for good measure. I like the book much more than the movie (don't get me wrong, I loved the movie) because while I'm a huge fan of everything Julie Andrews, the Grandmére character in the novel is far more interesting (though not very likable) and the dynamic of Mia’s father being alive and present seems to make a big difference. In any case, I really like Meg Cabot’s writing style and her wit. I met her once in Chicago and found her to be quite funny and nice, so I’m glad I finally found the time to read this book. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series ASAP.

I have found a bookcrossing book before so I recognized the sticker. I have a little sister and I thought she might be in to the Princess Diaries and the idea of an online book club. I hope she enjoys it.
