This is cod-medieval fantasy fiction in the George RR Martin style, where no breasts are left unmodified (they can be "pert" or "small but full" or "magnificent" or "young", but are never simply breasts). The hero grew up in a small village, has powerful magic and will turn out to be devastatingly handsome and charming. The heroine grew up in the next village along, has powerful magic, and is irresistibly beautiful. They are separated, but do not forget one another.

It may or may not surprise you to learn that the hero, being a healthy young man, has sex with lots of prostitutes (all of them young, beautiful and enjoying their job, especially when they have to service our hero). This gives him a reputation for being good with women. (It's an odd thing. We'd normally draw the opposite conclusion about a man who always paid for sex.) Meanwhile, our heroine's sexual experience consists -- stop me if this sounds at all familiar -- of a violent rape. She's then locked up in a kind of nunnery for women with magic, for her own protection. Of course, neither the prostitutes nor the rape have any impact on the beauty of the love our young couple make when they finally get together.

There's a story of sorts too: both characters collect guardians on their travels, there's something about a Trinity, our hero is "The One" (which may be why he's about to get crucified in the opening scene), there's an ancient curse/threat looming over the land which only The One or possibly the Trinity can overcome ... you know the sort of thing. It's entertaining enough, if rather icky.

I haven't decided how to bookcross this yet -- it will either go back into the SFF VBB or I'll wild release it around Edinburgh, perhaps at the book festival.
