Two sisters. Bright, attractive Sarah, newly down from Oxford and now bed-sittering in London; and beautiful Louise, who has just made a brilliant marriage to the rich but unlikeable novelist Stephen Halifax. But (despite their strangely protracted continental honeymoon) things seem to be going wrong...if the enigmatic letters, the hints dropped at parties, the bitchy newspaper gossip are anything to go by. And, as the situation builds to its bizarre climax, Louise and Sarah too have to discover whether they can really forgive each other for existing...
Margaret Drabble is one of my favourite authors; this is her first novel. I don't remember too much about it; I read it quite a few years ago. I do remember that I liked it, and that the book description makes it sound somewhat lurid, which it is not. :)
