My thoughts: I thought this was a really, really fascinating read. I learned so much about Mormonism I never knew before and that knowledge has explained a lot of my Mormon friends' behaviours! (Like why so many of them have the equivilant of a bomb-shelter supplied with tons of food. I tell you, if there were ever a major disaster, I've got some totally prepared Mormon friends.) I'm normally not that intereted in anything that even smells of a comparative religion class, but I was curious about the murder case wrapped up in this. Krakauer did an excellent job of giving enough background to try and explain the criminals' behaviour without going into a long, drawn out relgious history lesson. Good stuff.

Thanks for sending it my way. My brother converted to Mormonism several years ago and it has been a very difficult thing for our Evangelical family to understand. From my opinion, Mormonism is the newest version of the oldest brainwashing in history, but it will be interesting to learn more about the cult and see if I can determine what may have possessed him to join them.
