wasn't sure if this was going to be my cup of tea, but it was a really interesting read that picked up pace over the 200-odd pages. Putting this one aside for the winner of the EU birthday sweepstakes!
on its way to Spain - congratulations, you are either the winner or the decoy of the European birthday sweepstakes!
Received; this looks like an entertaining and short read. Thanks a lot!
I'm really intrigued.
And thanks for your lovely Xmas card! :)

Received as a Wishlist Tag, thank you very much! I've enjoyed all Faber's books that I've read, and also all of the Canongate Myths series I've read so far - which this is part of.

Theo Griepenkerl, expert on Aramaic and the not-very-likeable protagonist of this book, is in a museum in war-torn Iraq attempting to arrange a loan when a bomb goes off exposing some ancient scrolls, 'the Fifth Gospel'. Theo steals the scrolls and publishes them along with his story. Written by someone who knew Christ and describing the crucifixion in graphic terms, the new gospel causes ructions among all sorts of people. Well written and an interesting story, though my lack of sympathy for Theo meant I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have. I'm always amazed by the huge range of topics of Michel Faber, always so original. Part of the Canongate Myth series, this is supposed to be a re-imagining of the story of Prometheus but let's just say it's a very loose interpretation!
