Heat and Dust

An intriguing tale of two lives that intersect and mirror each other half-a-century apart. In 1920s colonial India, the very proper English wife of a minor official falls under the spell of an Indian prince; 50 year later, a young woman who has had access to the letters of the now-dead older woman, travels to India and finds her own life transformed.
My introduction to "Heat and Dust" was the 1983 Merchant Ivory film starring Julie Christie and Greta Scacchi--which I would love to see again.
My copy of the book is a well-worn, fairly shabby 1977 PB edition. I just finished reading it yet again, but it is time to set it free.
