I read this for my book club. A fable, masterfully written and charming.
Sending this along to another BCer with this book on her Wishlist. Enjoy!
I just read a great review of this one. Thanks so much for sharing!
The book has a wonderful premise--a fantastical circus that is magical or perhaps just superbly managed illusions that appears in seemingly random locations and is only open at night. Behind the scenes, a host of characters add layers of mystery. The descriptions of the different tents at the circus was clever and wondrous. Unfortunately, the author could quite control the characters and the plot to hold together a story as wondrous as her premise and setting.
While I see in reviews that some were disappointed with the ending, I found it workable. I just found the primary characters a bit flat an never really bought the romance allegedly driving quite a bit of the plot.
Recommended because the setting and circus descriptions are sufficient to make the book enjoyable. I'll be interested to see what else this author comes up with.
My husband also enjoyed reading this one. Now to find it a new home.

Received this book in the mail and look forward to reading it. Thanks for sharing.
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway: a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them both, this is a game in which only one can be left standing. Despite the high stakes, Celia and Marco soon tumble headfirst into love, setting off a domino effect of dangerous consequences, and leaving the lives of everyone, from the performers to the patrons, hanging in the balance.

This was very different, and I can see why you would either love it or hate it. I rather enjoyed the setting and the story more than I enjoyed the main characters. To me, while they were intricate to the story, the main focus is the circus. The details about all the other characters and the circus itself was what made this book interesting.
