World Book Night!
I hope you enjoy this gritty story as much as I did. Though I was not a big fan of Patti Smith's music I do like her writing style.

I was a giver for World Book Night and received 20 copies of the book I selected, Just Kids. We were instructed to give them to non- and light readers, which obviously eliminated my Bookcrossing friends. The mission was to put good (free) books in the hands of non-readers in hope of making some enthusiastic new readers. This wasn't an easy task! Most non-readers told me they didn't read simply because they didn't like to and didn't want to, and they wouldn't accept a book (like it was kryptonite). I wasn’t sure whether to put BC labels in the books because I didn’t want the recipients to think there were strings attached, so I'd put labels in only 2 copies. Months later I bumped into a woman I’d given one to - we remembered each other because we'd had a nice chat - and she told me she did read and enjoy the book but now it was sitting in the back of her car because she didn’t have anyone in particular to give it to. She hadn’t added a journal entry but she gave the book back to me and with a clear conscience I can now give it to a Bookcrosser :)
I was glad to see Just Kids on kayjay33’s wishlist. Merry Christmas!

I had never heard of World Book Night until a year or two ago when a Bookcrosser in England sent me one. I can appreciate what a problem it might be to try giving books to non-readers. I grew up in a family of readers and most of my daughters are readers as well. The two who live in the same city as I do, often search my bookshelves for something good to read. They usually bring the books back to me instead of releasing them.
I was very pleased and surprised to get this book in the mail from Stringofpearls. Thank you very much. It was indeed, on my wish list but I have removed it now and will be reading it soon ,unless it hides at the bottom of Mount TBR.

Having never heard of Patti Smith, I have no idea why I had put it on my wish list. I began to read it recently, giving it more than my fifty page test, closer to 150 pages. The name dropping of celebrities and also rans and the hippie life style just were not interesting to me so I set it aside for awhile. Today I made another attempt at reading it, but after two pages, I decided that I had more books that I would find interesting so reluctantly set it aside for good.
I am sorry, Stringofpearls that you wasted postage on a book that I didn't finish, especially when it was a World Book Night book. Thank you for your kindness in sending it to me, I will try to find someone who will enjoy it more.
