A very interesting and well written book about a young woman who lives in a mountainous area of what is now United Arab Emirates - set in the 1950s, she becomes the third wife of a pearl trader, before the oil industry came to dominate the region. A fascinating story written by an Emirati woman, with an interesting section on her own background and the writing of the book. Planning to put this one aside for a bookring.

The book arrived just when I was on my way to holidays in the Tirol and I had no time to make a JE.
Looking forward to reading it. Having visited Yemen, Qatar and Oman with my ex-pat family I'm very interested in the history of this country.

I was very interested in this book as I visualise the region. I didn't know about the wind towers but my son in law explained the process to us. It works better than air conditionning and for free but people there prefer modern ways...
