Received today! Will journal after I've read it. Thanks! =)

With their grandmother Mattie, the Mitchell sisters--Ashley, Brook, Connie, Deirdre, and Erica--stand united in pain at the funeral of their mother, the famous actress Rachelle Barrister. Rachelle abandoned the girls on Mattie's doorstep almost as soon as each was born, and they resent her for it, wondering, "How does one pay one's last respects when there was no respect in the first place?" Their resentment creates stumbling blocks in their relationships with one another and with God. As they drift back into their own lives, Mattie's goodbye reminds them that their blood is a slender thread holding them together and that if they don't work at maintaining it, the thread will break. And it does break when Mattie rips apart a special quilt she had made for her girls and sends a piece to each one. In the wake of the quilt, Ashley's and Deirdre's lives begin to unravel, and it takes the entire family to piece them back together. Highlighting the weaknesses and strengths of a family, Peterson (A Promise for Tomorrow) offers a contemporary tale suitable for all collections.

What a good book! I really liked this story of a family growing closer to each other and to God when dealing with turmoil and heartache in their own lives. I grew up with 2 sisters so a lot of their issues hit close to home! I've also been far from home for a really long time. Makes me want to visit... =)

What a refreshing book. I absolutely loved each and every one of the characters as well as the storyline itself. I had a difficult time putting the book down because I was always eager to see what was developing next. Mattie is such an inspiration to us all- fictional or not, we'd all be better to be touched by such a woman in our lives. Thank you for sharing this bookring. I hope you will send more Christian bookrings out to share- maybe this will inspire me to start my own!

I mailed this to fairfaxgirl this morning in Virginia. Enjoy!

I enjoyed this book very much, and it was interesting to see the character development of each sister, and how Mattie had influenced each one. Oh, that we all had a Mattie in our lives!

I mailed the book this morning to WarEagle78 who I hope will enjoy it as much as I did. Thank you, havfaith, for sharing this lovely book!

Like the rest of you, I did enjoy the book. The story moved along nicely, and the theme was very special - the pulling together of five sisters who had drifted apart (or in one case determined to separate herself) after leaving the farm where they were raised. I loved seeing how events pulled them back to God and the faith in which they were raised. The object used to illustrate the theme, a beautiful quilt made by the grandmother who raised the sisters, was an excellent device for this tale.

I do have to say that the writing was not masterful. I had trouble from the beginning understanding the point of view of some sisters, and I don't think Brook was particularly well developed as a character. It detracted from the story for me, but it still earned a 7/10 for its uplifting story line.

Thanks again havfaith for sharing this book with us all! I'll have it off to FancyHorse on my next post office visit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see how the mother's problems were manifested in each of her daughters in some way, but they each managed to return to the family circle and to God. It was an inspiring story of abandonment, betrayal, rebellion, worldly temptations, love, forgiveness, reconciliation, and strength.

I have sent it on the the next reader in the ring, cmbohn.

Planning to send this one on soon. Just finished it today. I really enjoyed this book, although some of the story lines felt a little rushed in their conclusions. (maybe because she was planning a sequel?) I felt that Brooke's story was a little too short and the romance between Connie and her man (don't want to spoil anything!) was a little rushed too.

Thanks for the chance to read this one. Will mail it soon. I've had it longer than I should have already.

I have had such a heavy month emotionally and have not been interested in reading anything because I am too exhausted to engage with the book. However, when I received this book and scanned through it a little, it is just what the doctor ordered to relax me...I can hardly wait to start reading.

Journal Entry 23 by bc-del-20080226 on Wednesday, June 23, 2004
Ah shucks, does this book really have to end? I loved it so much and I cried in several areas, like when the family became so forgiving to each other. I can best identify with Connie, where you are constantly jealous and running away from it all. I cried so much when the family all forgave each other, including Ashley with her husband. I hope if someone does wrong against me, I can be strong and forgive as well.

The only complaint is that the write rushed things toward the end. In the begining, the author gave everyone time to deal with the comments each sister made and how it affected each other. Here, everyone gave a knowing glance at each other. I wish she could have made this a series and not rush the ending...but then again, maybe it is just me. I was too involved with the story that I was not ready to finish it.

Time to let this go and move on :(

Just received in the mail today. Will be reading while on vacation.

Really enjoyed this spiritual novel. What an endearing woman Mattie's character was and what strength she had in her belief in God and the reality that he does not make mistakes.

8/22/04 on to hwy18. Enjoy

I really enjoyed this read, I have 4 sisiters and could relate to the relashionships that these women have.
How wonderful that they had such a loving Grandmother to raise them and love them like she did, this is certainly a feel good book and one to cuddle up with on a day that we need to see that forgiveness is truly a gift we give from our hearts and one that sets us free, thats a gift we can give each day of our lives !
Raising children and sending them out into the real world, watching them go through hurts and trials as well as triumphs is all part of parenting.Raising our children to love & honor God the Father is vital in our world today and how true it is that we reap what we have sown...I thank God that I had parents who raised me in a Christian home and that as an adult and parent that Gods word is settled in me and daily I can share the testamonies in the Bible with my own children and give them Gods answers to problems that were no different then as they are in todays time.

For we walk by faith and not by sight.
