Life of Pi
5 journalers for this copy...
After all the hype, I decided this would be a book I would really get into. I wasn't that interested in the search through the religions or life in India. The reading was ponderous, but I pushed and I finished it. Life in a life raft with a tiger - big deal. Plot? Where? I still don't get it. I've read a lot of books and I don't have enough time for all the ones I want to read. That was time I can't get back. I'd have to put "Pi" pretty low on my list.

Just received today. Currently reading another bookring, "Middlesex" (it's long and slow), and will read this next. Sal
A strange plot with unexpected twists. A pretty good book with an unbelievable plot.
Just received this and am adding it to my tbr ring/ray pile and will read it in the order it came. As soon as I have read it, I will make another entry and will send it to the next person.
At first I couldn't get into this book. I stopped reading it for a while and came back to it later. I started it again and it got better for me! I am not sure if it was the way the writer wrote the book or if it was just me. Not a bad book though!
I am sorry I held this so long and am glad that someone else was able to help getting a second copy to send to the rest of this ray. Since no one else needs it, I am going to put it up as available unless anyone is interested in keeping this copy...or if jawin wants me to put it as another ray...
I am making this into an international bookray.
From the back:
After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, one solitary lifeboat remains bobbing in the wild, blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a zebra (with a broken leg), a female orang-utan...and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
This is heading out to a fellow bookcrosser! Hope you enjoy. :)
Received this in the mail as a trade/RABCK ... I've been told I should read this one, so glad it's finally on my TBR. Thanks! :)
Seems this book has been sitting on my shelf for a long time, and although many people recommended that I read it, for some reason I just kept putting it off. Now I'm sorry I did.
For some reason, I thought that the book would be full of religious allegory or other religious mumbo-jumbo, and whereas there was a small bit of that, it was easily skimmed over (for me, since that stuff appeals not a whim to me). In actuality, this story was a tale on a grand scheme, told with a lovely descriptive writing style that I found captivating, but not so overly-flowery and verbose as to be annoying. The author manages to describe things so vividly that you almost feel like you are there experiencing it with the characters.
The story itself is creative, interesting and yes, a little bit hard to believe. That's partly what makes it so fun. I loved how knowledgeable Pi was about all types of animals - which of course makes sense since his family owned a zoo - as well as various plants and other biological factors and processes. Combined with his intellect, intuition and common sense, you can almost understand how he was able to survive, and keep Richard Parker alive, under such incredible circumstances.
Oh, and I just loved Richard Parker. Even just his name makes me giggle -- but I loved everything from the way the author described his movements, sounds and expressions -- to the symbiotic relationship that was eventually developed between he and Pi. What a great character.
Overall, a very unique and imaginative story. I'm so happy I finally read it.

Loaning this book to my colleague Kate, as she wants to read it before the movie comes out.
Decided to pick this up after watching the movie. It has been sitting on my shelves for about a year, I finally decided to read it. I have not started yet but saw a sticker for this website and thought I'd give an update as I might not /will forget to do it later! As of now it is in Texas and am planning on passing it along.
