I brought this copy because I enjoyed it so much that I know I will want to read this novel again. As I have yet to read the rest of the series I am going to send this out as a bookring so that I can spread the word about an exciting new author [well she is for me] to the rest of the BookCrossing community. Makes me sound like a missionary, doesn't it?
The first copy I had of this book I RABCK as rarely keep books after I have read them. Even before becoming a BookCrosser I did this and would regularly take books down to charity shops, second-hand booksellers or just give them away. For instance, some of Georgette Heyer's novels I must have brought and given away again enough times over to have the books bound in leather with golden leaf on the paper edges by a Print On Demand firm! So with the advent of BookCrossing not only can do as I have done in the past but get the added bonus of reading everyone else's thoughts on the book too. As I know that I will want to read this again in the future I am sending this out as a bookring, so saving money by only buying this once but hopefully encouraging others to discover for themselves other books [or even buying a copy of this one] by this author. It will be interesting to write another journal entry for this book after reading everyone else's comments and rereading this a second time.

This is a "copy and paste" job from the book journal of the first version of this novel I had in my possession. This is a brand new copy brought especially so I could bookring it.
Absolutely brilliant book by an author recommended a lot by BookCrossers who love vampire books. This is the first in a series of vampire novels set around Anita Blake, a vampire hunter. She is tough, she is feisty and lives in a USA which has given the undead equal rights with the rest of us. Her main job is as an Animator, someone who raises the undead [zombies] which apparently is quite lucrative. On the side she works with the police as a consultant on vampires and the undead, which sometimes involves execution. As you can imagine she isn't a popular person with the vampire community, so it is rather odd that they want her to investigate a series of vampire murders. Normally, Anita would tell them to get stuffed but they have made an offer she can't refuse.
I want to read more Anita Blake books. I am now totally hooked and can understand why Laurell K. Hamilton books are so popular. There is no absolutes [good versus evil] and the author leaves you wanting to know more about Anita and her world. Hamilton doesn't give you too much background information and let it interfere with the story but lets the action dictate what Anita [it is written in the first person] tells you. I'm now a fan! Give me more! I want more!

Received in the mail today. This is a new author for me and I can't wait to get into it. I'll put it at the top of my TBR box so that I can send it on to the next lucky person in this bookring. Thanks talkland.
I just finished this and I was very impressed. I've never been a fan of vampire books, but this one really won me over. I was hooked from the beginning and can't wait to read more about Anita Blake. (I'm so excited that the second bookring has begun) Thanks so much talkland for starting this bookring and introducing me to a new author and a new genre of books. It goes into the mail to Adrienne10 tomorrow.

I apologize for the late announcement of receiving this book. This is my first bookring that I am participating in and missed the manners section. I received this book, Tuesday, December 2nd, which also happened to be my birthday. It was a great surprise on my birthday.
I am, so far, a little less than half-way through and will update my journal entry upon completion. So far, I am enjoying the book. Ms. Hamilton is a good author, although not quite the caliber of some others that I read often.
Update 12/08/03
I finished the book and have sent it on its way to Cytronella.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I figured out the murderer before Anita did, and I'm not sure if that's the intent of the author or not. As a writer, I have made an effort to increase the number of authors I read. It was good to read a novel written in the first person because I haven't read many of those. I am definitely interested in continuing to read the series. I found a lot of Anita's behavior interesting given some of the things I have heard from other reader's of LKH Anita Blake's series about behavior later in the series.

Arrived in todays mail! I'm 2/3 through what I'm reading now, so will be on and through this in no time! I'm looking forward to the chance to read a new (to me) author and a series I've heard a lot about lately. More when I've read the book . . .
Ok, I am so hooked!!! I totally enjoyed this first forray into Anita Blake's world, where vampires, werefolks, zombies, ghouls and who knows what other petrenatural (that word looks funny to me - it can't be spelled right, but I have no dictionary at hand) creatures all coexist with humans, and even have laws protecting them!
I am always imppressed when an authour can approach a subject that has been thouroughly explored by others and find a way to own it. Laurell Hamilton does a masterful job of that, if this first tale is any indication.
I'll pack this one off to ladyofunicorns right away, and look forward to the next book in this series!

Received this in the mail and am adding it to my tbr ring/ray pile and as soon as I have read it, I will make another entry and send it on to the next person!
All I can say is...wow! I am so hooked! I love reading vampire books and this book was really good. I have had this author recommended to me. Written in first person, that is kind of unusual...it was very well done. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Olysmom asked to be removed so I pm'd the next person and got their address. I sent this book and Laughing Corpse yesterday via airmail.
This came in the mail along with The Laughing Corpse on Friday of last week but life interfered and I didn't get a chance to register it right away. However, I did start reading it immediately.
A fast paced story with overtones of Buffy (just the funny parts) but neither the story nor the writing really pulled me in. I did finish it but I didn't enjoy it enough to read the second novel.

This is going out in the mail tomorrow morning to SpaceyStacey in New Jersey. Sorry it took me so long to mail it. It got pushed down on the list of things to do. Should arrive in a few days. ENJOY! :)
Received in the post today along with The Laughing Corpse. Will be mailing out to the next reader shortly.
5/5/07 Received pm from both Rhenium3 and Olliebear, they have already read this one and asked that I contact the next reader in line. Have done that, now waiting for a reply.
