One of my favorite books. It is a modern update of C. S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters and I do like Randy Alcorn's writing style.

It is fiction but it does demonstrate the Devil's lies and his Demon's great deceit. The chapters toggle between the "real" world and the spiritual world to show the thought processes in each.

I finally received this today, I can hardly wait to begin reading this.

I am not done this book, in fact I am only on page 50 of 300. I am finding this book hilarous "what in Heaven are you doing?" or, "There will be Heaven to pay." It sounds so childish that I cannot help but laughing, I know it is to mock those that say hell instead, but I rarely hear that anymore and it sounds so funny.

Also I am disappointed because you can see how much he adores C.S. Lewis. I can see that he is writing from C.S. Lewis' thinking instead of his own. If I were still at my university and handed something like this in, I would have received a C because the creativity was not there.

Also I did not appreciate that he assumed I was an idiot thinking that Lord Foulgrin took over this thinking as he wrote the book. I know that God is better then that. Clarifying that at the end of the book is to say that C.S. Lewis was demon possessed as well, and no one thinks like that.

Finally, someone once told me that he is disappointed in Christians who try to be creative. He said that the message gets in the way of creativity and I can see that in this book. If Alcorn was not scared of the devil, he could have looked on the internet and read the Satanic bible to see their language and how he does decieve people. So the message got in the way of being creative with the story. I would have went and read the Satanic bible, just like reading the book of Mormon, JW's bible etc for educational purposes, change my name and wrote about me and how the devil is tricking me.

But that is me and my lack of fear of the devil. I know that Satan is less intelligent then me, and I also know that he has no power either. That knowledge alone allows me to go and research without fear that the devil will take over my mind, afterall that is how C.S. Lewis wrote.

So I will give this a few more days to see if I can finish this book over the weekend, otherwise, I have other funny books I am in the middle of reading and would like to get back to those.

Received today. As I love "The Screwtape Letters", I'm looking forward to reading this update.

I found this tough reading. My favorite parts were paraphrases of The Screwtape Letters.

Parts I loved: in the alternating chapters, the human chapters are written on white paper. The devil's chapters are charred. [Why is the stolen angel's chapter charred, too? I found it disturbing that the angel was looking forward to purging humans from the earth: was this supposed to be a clumsy lie?]

More emphasis was placed on a woman's viewpoint in this book. This made it easier for me to relate.

Things I disliked:
The problems he had created for himself and his family seemed too easily resolved, in some cases rather pettily. It also seemed over-lurid in the demon's emotional reaction/inspiration of mutilation and torture... The emotional pacing of the book seemed off, also.

It gave me a lot to think about for Lent, and discuss at our Bible study small group meetings.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this. I was unfamiliar with Mr. Alcorn's works.

PM sent to SnowPepsi to verify she's still interest in participating/mailing address.
