Journal Entry 3 by wingPlum-crazywing at Brighouse, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Monday, December 19, 2016
To start with, two things surprised me about this book: firstly, that the writing didn't seem dated. Other books I've read that were written around the same period(1940s) seemed very much of their time & often slightly stilted. I guess it's this "timeless" quality that has meant it's maintained it's popularity over nearly seven decades.

Secondly, it hadn't crossed my mind that this was a teen book (not that it would have been called that then!). It's not something I would have read in my early teens & I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made it much past the first few chapters. However, as an adult my overall verdict is that it was a pleasant enough read but I can't say I was over enamoured with it, at points my interest wandered & I struggled to visualise how the whole home, castle & tower scenario fitted together. Not one that I'd be inclined read again.
