Update 25/4/04

Absolutely gorgeous, sad and inspiring, and deeply, deeply fab. I'm going to share the love with this one and pass it on to someone who has definite Stargirl qualities too - enjoy the book, sweet-pea. x

I just couldn't resist it! Not only did it move straight to the top of the TBR mountain, it helped speed me up in my reading to gain my attention as quickly as possible.

Read yesterday and today over the course of 4 bus journeys and a couple of coffees in the Muffin Break.

I'm not too sure exactly what to say about it here - got to be careful or this could turn very easily into a 3,000 word essay!

I think I know why you passed it to me Luc. Or at least I hope I do. Or at least I really want to think I know (waffling I know...).

A Truely remarkable book. Inspirational, heart-warming and breaking all at the same time, an amazing book that even when I wasn't reading it I was thinking about.

Do I have Stargirl qualities? I'd like to think so..... To say someone has, is maybe the greatest compliment you could pay anyone. So THANK YOU LUCY. You've made my year!

A story of friendship and alienation, individuality and acceptance. I felt a little bit as though the moral message was a bit too obvious; although I think i would have been far more accepting of it had I first read this as a teenager.

Update April 28th: Offered under 'A Fable for Our Time' book relay (http://casualreader.net/bookrelay/)...

A great reminder about how important it is to be yourself, and to love and support others for their glorious, wacky peculiarities, if only because they make life more interesting and make all of us feel more alive. I read this in an afternoon yesterday.

Here is me in one of my more Stargirl-esque phases; just picture me driving around in a car covered in broken glass and mirrors, like a giant rolling discoball. But it seems like I've been too busy being the responsible-one-who-pays-the-rent-on-time to have any crazy adventures lately. I guess this book was a wake-up call: "IT'S TIME! This book made Stargirl seem so heroic for being her crazy self that it made me think about how expressing your individuality can be in inspiration to other people. I shouldn't just do it for me! Heck, I owe it to the world to make my own special, unique little handprint. Cue the superman music, I'm going to go change into something crazy!

Mailed to SandDanz.

I received this in the mail while I was away at the Bookcrossing convention. Oddly enough, I saw a copy of this on the table of books there, but left it for someone else since I knew it was coming my way. Thanks so much for the book and postcard! :)
