The first of the 4 book series - this introduces us to the Cullens, a slightly different twist on the vampire clan, and Bella Swan. Bella comes to Forks to live with her dad and is immediately intrigued by the Cullens at her school. Edward, Alice, Rosalie and Jasper are attending the Forks HS and they are the wards of Carlisle and Esme Cullen. As we soon find out, they are all very old vampires that settled in Forks for the weather (nice and rainy).
THought I'd add the first two in this series - so your nieces can read from the beginning.
