A great book, set in Afghanistan..."A moving portrait of Afghanistan, from its pre-Russian invasion glory through the terrible reign of the Taliban" Entertainment Weekly
Chances are, this book came from the personal bookshelf of the late Richard Landon.
Not too long ago, Richard’s widow left a pile of books on the pub shelves.
Who was Richard Landon? He was the long-time Director of the Fisher Rare Book Library at U of T. Under his direction, the Library grew from 40,000 to over 700,000 volumes. Richard pretty much spent his entire career at the Fisher Library, which is considered one of the world’s greatest rare book libraries.
Richard died Oct. 5th, 2011, and this is a great way to keep his love of books going 'round the world...

I must say this book captured my mind...and emotions!
It truely captivated me throughout each page...and many times I would forget this was fiction and not a memoir! And not since Anne Frank's journal have I felt so many emotions arising, one moment feeling outraged at Amir's betrayal to Hassan, and in the next moment feeling absolute pity for him! His relationship with his father pierced my heart..as well as Hassan's love and loyalty to Amir...and the horrible realities they had to face growing up...the brutal betrayal and the suffering of those around them in each twist and turn of life made the story come alive for me!
The story isso gripping in its 'fierce plots' and 'twists' that had me sometimes afraid to view the next chapter! My emotions tumbling up and down through each chapter! The background of Afghanistan...and Amir's 'growing up' through the peaceful years and right in the middle of the reign of the Taliban was filled with such vividness I felt as if I had journyed there...and I learned alot I didnt know about Afghanistan...
An amazing novel that I really enjoyed...and had to read twice :) I cant imagine that I would have picked this up on my own...and I'm setting it free this weekend...will let you know which city when i do...

:) I have had the Kite Runner traveling with me for weeks, and I finally released it last Thursday in Etobicoke...close to Humber College, South end. :)
I hope someone not only finds it and enjoys it as much as I did, but that they also write an entry in here! :)
