Dry: A Memoir

Goodreads.com summary:
From the bestselling author of Running with Scissors comes Dry—the hilarious, moving, and no less bizarre account of what happened next.
You may not know it, but you've met Augusten Burroughs. You've seen him on the street, in bars, on the subway, at restaurants: a twenty-something guy, nice suit, works in advertising. Regular. Ordinary. But when the ordinary person had to drinks, Augusten was circling the drain by having twelve; when the ordinary person went home at midnight, Augusten never went home at all. Loud, distracting ties, automated wake-up calls, and cologne on the tongue could only hide so much for so long. At the request (well, it wasn't really a request) of his employers, Augusten landed in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey, Jr., are immediately dashed by the grim reality of fluorescent lighting and paper hospital slippers. But when Augusten is forced to examine himself, something actually starts to click, and that's when he finds himself in the worst trouble of all. Because when his thirty days are up, he has to return to his same drunken Manhattan life—and live it sober. What follows is a memoir that's as moving as it is funny, as heartbreaking as it is real. Dry is the story of love, loss, and Starbucks as a higher power.

I received this as a gift all the way back in 2008, because I enjoyed Running with Scissors and placed this on my wishlist. But, I still haven't gotten to it, so I am now seeing if there is any interest in an international bookring! I'm still interested in reading it, but do not see myself getting to it soon. Why let it languish on my shelves in the meantime?!
Participants! For now, there is no rush to read it. It's going on a journey because I have limited time and space at the present moment, and therefore I do not need it back immediately. If you have other rays and rings that you received first, that's just fine. I'll check in with you for a status update if you've had it longer than a few months or so, but as long as you stay in touch and move it along eventually, there's no problem. If I'm getting antsy for it to come home, I will let you know! ;)

The bookring never did take off, but the book moved with me from St. Petersburg to Minneapolis, and finally, I've gotten around to reading it. I thought it was good in the beginning and end, but boring through most of the middle. I enjoyed the author's wit and brutal honesty.. but could have done without the detailed descriptions of petty work drama, which did not seem to contribute to the story in any significant way. Overall, did not find it to be as compelling as Running with Scissors.
So much of the story is very detailed conversations... which leads me to take the description of "memoir" with a grain of salt.
Also, what the HELL ever happened with that bus?! Good Lord.
