Flesh
7 journalers for this copy...
Not actually my book but was loaned to me by a close friend. Just had to list it on my bookshelf. I love Laymon!
Just got this book, can't wait to dive in! Thank you shaddowolff and thanks to our proprieter of all things Laymon as well!
A classic Laymon tale! Not his greatest work, but it sure did keep me glued to my chair. The best synopsis I have found on this book reads:
No one in town has ever seen anything like it before: a slimy, mobile tube of glistening yellow flesh, with dull staring eyes and an obscene, probing mouth.
But the real horror is not what it looks like, or even what it does to you when it burrows greedily into your flesh, but what it makes you do to others... {from the Richard Laymon Kills website}
This sucker is the ultimate parasite and I'd have to say the original "shit weasel" (although I'd be hard pressed to decide whether I wanted this or SK's "shit weasel" to inhabit my body). I highly recommend this to Laymon fans everywhere! And since I have procured a second copy of this, the original can go back to the kind soul who loaned it to us, and this copy can go out in a Ring!

This isn't one of my favorite Laymon's that I've read so far but it definitely had elements that had me page turning well into the night. (when any good person would have gone to bed long before!).

It's here. I'm in the middle of Ketchum's "The Girl Next Door" but will start this as soon as I finish.
Well, my mistake was starting this one directly after reading "The Girl Next Door" which was one of the most horrific and disturbing books I've ever read. Any horror book would simply pale in comparison. Flesh was much more cartoonish after reading all of that real-life-based horror and switching gears was tough for me. It had many classic Laymon elements which I always find hilarious especially the men who are constantly distracted by boobs (never fails to crack me up) and the stupid chicks who think withholding sex when their men misbehave will fix everything (wake up you dumb girlies!) but somewhere midpoint I began to lose interest because there wasn't enough horror for me. I'll try again tonight to see if it picks up. If not, I'll send it along to the next in line.
Journal Entry 11 by BarkLessWagMore at Bookring 2 in bookring, Bookring -- Controlled Releases on Wednesday, June 7, 2006
Received today in the mail as part of a ring. Will begin the book in the next couple of days.
Just a little note to say that I have started this book.
A typical Laymon novel, but a very good story nonetheless. I enjoyed this, and thank you for sharing it. I'm going to email the next in line for their info, and get this book in the mail this week.
Sent this book to the next reader in MD today!
This was a typical Laymon horror novel with lots of blood, sex, and gore. I have read several Laymon novels and I would say this one probably ranks in the top 5 or so that I have read (I enjoyed "The Stake" probably the most). This book had the requisite amount of chills (not for the squeamish!). The story reminded me a lot of the super sci-fi movie from the 80's --The Hidden. Both stories were about an entity that invaded humans and affected their minds to commit acts of violence. In fact, "The Hidden" was released in 1987 and "Flesh" was copyrighted in 1988. Hmmm - I wonder if Laymon stole some ideas from the movie? Anyway, I recommend both the movie (The Hidden) and Flesh!
I have received the address for rangerfan and will get the book in the mail tomorrow. Thanks for including me in this bookray!

Came today as part of a Bookray. It sounds good. As I'm last on the list, I probably won't get to this one for a bit.
