Paperback, 243 pages

From the back cover:
In Half a Loaf of Kun Fu—the dubbed version—Jackie complains to the Beggar Master, "It's my Kung Fu. It's just no good except for laughs." Sometimes I wonder if my life is only good for laughs....

Twenty-six-year-old Nicci Bradford doesn't exactly love her job of fixing the grammar in company brochures. She doesn't exactly love living in Boston, or going on awkward dates with men she barely knows. What she does love is Kung Fu movies...especially the ones starring her beloved Jackie Chan. Their timeless and inspired wisdom offers her a philosophy of life. The problem is, she doesn't have much of a life to philosophize about.

But wisdom isn't the only thing that Jackie Chan has to offer. He's also a pretty good action hero. And when opportunity—and risk—present themselves in unexpected ways, it's up to Nicci to follow her hero's example, focus on her goal, and strike...

Thank you so much Secret Santa for your generous gift! I finally unwrapped my presents and found not 1, but 2 wishlist books! Lots of bookcrossing supplies and beautiful homemade labels, a really nice (literary) Christmas card (Nevermore! :p), delicious sounding chocolate, tea, and coffee (wish I had camera to take a photo of everything :p).

Coffee and Kung Fu sounds like a strange combination.. should be fun! :) Looking forward to read it.
Thanks again mellion108!
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all the best for the New Year! ^_^

I don't often read chick-lit, but I enjoyed this one a lot. Nicci is a very likeable character, someone you can relate to (and somewhat geeky with her love for Kung Fu movies :)). I've also been to Hong Kong a few times, and could just picture the places she was daydreaming about.
Despite the book's bright pink cover, it wasn't quite as silly as I thought it might be. There were some interesting comments that made me think "Yes, that's so true!"
And it was nice to see how Nicci finally takes control of her own life, making those tough decisions. But I wish we could have seen a bit more about Coffee Boy. :p

Thanks again mellion108 for sharing this book with me!

It was a book that I saw a couple of years ago on sale but didn’t get it – too many books to chose from back then. Then, I received as a birthday present from someone at Bookcrossing. Though it’s a good chicklit, that part about Kung Fu movies was bothering me a bit; I’m not a Kung Fu fan and every time a mention was made about a movie, I couldn’t really get it. Still, the whole story is nice though the main character always had the tendency to underestimate herself or simply not be interested in something. It’s a trait, in a character, that I don’t like to see be that much emphasize – someone can see itself a bit negatively but not constantly. It has a good dose of humour and seriousness, and ends in a way that not all chiklit books end and yet, it also an end that can be predictable for this story. Overall, it was a fun and light reading while I was commuting to work.

This was an okay read by the poolside. I’m not that into Kung Fu movies and not at all into coffee but the book still kept me entertained.
