On her parents' deaths, Mary Yellan is sent to stay with her uncle Joss Merlyn in the sinister Jamaica Inn where he works. Out on bleak Bodmin Moor there are few people to see them, and Mary begins to suspect her uncle of using the inn for a more evil purpose than entertaining travellers. The Cornish villagers are either working with him, or are too fearful to help her. Eventually she must decide who, if anyone, to enlist her to help discover what is going on.

This is a good solid classic thriller, interesting, readable and well-written.
