I picked this up expecting a romance with a bit of suspense. It's a thriller with the hint of what might become romance, or just hot sex (though I'm sure they'll end up together).

However, I don't really like thrillers and I deal with them very poorly if I'm tired. Given I have a toddler, I'm pretty much always tired right now, so I think it's best if I stop reading this book and release it for someone else to enjoy.

It seems to be well written--I read the first few chapters and there is a nice spooky shivery feeling with the bad guy, and the good guys seem realistic and I want to fill in some of the holes about characters that are being built up....I just know I need to stop. Some of where the story is going is not a secret, and I'm just not in the mental state to enjoy this type of thriller.

I see in the title here it's the second in a series. That explains why the history seemed awful extensive. I wasn't having a problem following the story at all, so you could just read this one, it's just some of the events don't seem like what would normally be included....except they were probably in the first book.

I'm glad to see Maggie Shayne can write like this--I read a couple of her vampire books and they seemed to be rather cookie-cutter. Maybe I'll give another of her books a try sometime.
