The Ten Commandments

J. I. Packer says:
"It cannot be too much stressed that Old Testament moral teaching is not inferior to that of the New Testament, let alone the conventional standards of our time. The barbarities of lawless sex, violence, and exploitation, cutthroat business methods, class warfare, disregard for one's family and the like are sanctioned only by our modern secular society. The supposedly primitive Old Testament, and the 3,000-year-old Commandments in particular, are bulwarks against all these things."
Packer explores various aspects of the Commandments-the Creator's directives for the successful living of human life. In particular, he shows how the Commandments reflect God's own nature, and God's desire for men to turn to him for life-and life "well lived."
J. I. Packer is Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is also the author of "God Has Spoken" and "Knowing God."
Edited 4 Nov 11: Lifelines: The Ten Commandments for Today by Edith Schaeffer will be helpful in my study of the Ten Commandments. I may get a few other things to add before the reading begins.
