This book was seriously painful to read. The only reason I finished it is because it was so short, I figured I might as well. The main character, Jane, just seems completely clueless about everything; she has no drive or ambition in her career, she treats men like foreign entities, and makes little effort to have any friends or social life. Her relationship with the older man is baffling; it's borderline emotionally abusive at best. And her best friend gives terrible advice. The blurb on the back says that this book "captures in perfect pitch what it's like to be a young woman coming of age in America today." If true, then I seriously question the ability of the American public education system to give comprehensive education to girls and young women. Yikes.
