Received the book in the mail today. Thanks uofigirl! I can't wait to begin it this evening.
Arrived today. Thanks! I will journal again when finished.
Whew! Finished!
This book is a massive tome. The story was very detailed, and the balance between characters' points-of-view was good. But the characters were a pathetic lot. (I couldn't identify with many of their troubles because I've been very lucky and blessed with a relatively functional extended family.) Most of the writing was decent, if occasionally ADD, but there were a number of spots where I wanted to smack the author over the head for being a pretentious boob. A number of themes were obvious, but with so much detail, this is perhaps one of those books better disgested within the formality of a reading group and organized discussion.
This book that wasn't bad, but it wasn't necessarily good enough to justify slogging through nearly 600 pages. If you've got a hefty TBR pile or other things to do, I can see this book being one of those that takes you months to get from cover to cover.
Overall, I'm shocked that this made the Oprah book club list. The common "all Oprah books are the same" mantra does not apply in this case.
Thanks to uofigirl for starting this bookray. I'm glad I finally got a chance to read this. CaptainJack has acquired a separate copy, so this copy will be on its way to Booknose tomorrow. Happy reading!

Got this in the mail today, looking forward to reading it this month, I have several other books that are also rays, ring, relays or trades due out, so my month is full but luckily I can average about a book every 2-3 days, hopefully this one won't be too difficult to get into an I will therefore be able to move it on by April 1st. Crossing my fingers.
Thanks Uofigirl for sharing!

Time has conspired against me, and I cannot find time to read this and this will not be a good month for it, since I have a lot of group reads. Don't feel it would be fair to hold on to it any longer. Forwarding to the next person. Thanks for the opportunity anyway, uofigirl.
Got the book in the mail tonite! Finishing up another book, and will start this one by the weekend.
Overall a good book. Took me awhile to get into, as I thought the beginning was pretty slow. Although there were some slow spots, it had such interesting looks at characters.
Thanks uofigirl!
Off to next person as soon as I get the address and to the post office...
6/11: no sign of twinb1957... moving on down the list...
6/25: still no word from twinb1957 or VisuaLimitS. Have Klute's address, and will be getting the book out shortly!

I found that book when my girlfiends flatmate moved out. My girlfriend read it in german, I'll tackle it english :) that, the size and my sparse time will make it an enterprise that'll take some time. I had a glance though allready and I like the writing. Good writing is something that's a value in itself and sometimes I don't need anything more, just the caressing, soothing flow of well-put-together words :)
