1989 Fawcett Crest paperback of the 1988 mega-novel. This copy is very worn, with duct tape holding the binding together. I found this copy a couple years ago in the free books pile on the porch of Dimond Library.

I can let this go after I read:
1953 The Bridges at Toko-Ri [read 2017]
1959 Hawaii [read 2008]
1971 The Drifters [read 2010]
1974 Centennial [read 2009]
1978 Chesapeake [read 2021]
1980 The Covenant [read 2023]
1982 Space [read 2021]
1983 Poland [read 2021]

Edit January 17, 2022: This was good, but I just skimmed to end for time. It is his longest book yet, at well over a thousand pages, absurdly long. But I enjoy the way this author sets up his locations, beginning with the beginning of the universe, and moving up to the present day. I particularly enjoyed learning about the formation of this land mass, with the plate tectonics leaving pieces crunched up against pieces, leaving traces behind that we can observe in the mountains and landscapes that persist today. The glaciations also played a big role here, and then the early native migrations out of Asia. I passed by everything else after that, which covers much more familiar ground through history, and makes up the bulk of the book. I currently have this ranked at #6827 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.
