From the blurb: Zenia is beautiful, smart and greedy; by turns manipulative and vulnerable, needy and ruthless; a man's dream and a woman's nightmare. She is also dead. Just to make absolutely sure Tony, Roz and Charis are there for the funeral. But five years on, as the three women share a sisterly lunch, the impossible happens: 'with waves of ill will flowing out of her like cosmic radiation', Zenia is back...

Aha! Been thinking I should read this for about the last 10 years. Thank you!
I find Atwood's books can be a a bit hit or miss, but this was one of the hits. Her exploration of the three women's attitudes towards Zenia was fascinating, though I found Charis less well-rounded as a character than Tony or Roz.
Tony was my, and I suspect Atwood's, favourite. Her obsession with war and battles made for good background metaphors to the whole sorry saga. She was the only character I could imagine getting on with in real life - a really unique voice whom I was very happy to be guided by.
I'm not too sure whether I liked the ending or not. It's over a week since I finished the novel and I still haven't made up my mind.
