cute themed-mystery, very light read. might be enough to convince me to pick up the other books in the seres.

from the back cover:

The art of needlecraft requires patience, discipline and creativity. So, too, does the art of detection. Just ask Betsy Devonshire -- who's learning that life in a small-town needlecraft shop can reveal an unexpected knack for knitting... and a hidden talent for unraveling crime.

When Betsy arrived in Excelsior, Minnesota, all she wanted was to visit her sister Margot and to get her life in order. She never dreamed her sister would give her a place to stay and a job at her needlecraft shop. In fact, things had never looked so good -- until Margot was murdered...

Loved the quaintness of this, and the fact that I could pick up on all the needlwork references, would like to read more of the series. Fairly transparent as a whodunnit though, would've liked a few convoluted twists.
Offering this up as a ring for needleworkers, then will include in a mystery box if it's still in one piece.

On its way to ahythloday to start the bookring. Zmrzlina suggested on the forum that we should insert pics of our own needlework in the journal entries. I don't have the hardware so can't, but anyone else feel free, would love to see your handiwork. Happy reading, happy stitching!

what a fun book! the needlework references were not only numerous but knowledgeable! i got this book yesterday and finished it when i woke up today (its 8:25 a.m)! i normally am not interested in mysteries but decided to join this ring because i'm OBSESSED with needlework! it turned out to be a great idea. the only reservations i had were the reality of betsy's emotions (little time spent being actually upset about her sister's death) and the wrap up at the end. but these paled next to the great fun i had in reading this book. will be posting on friday for the next member of this ring.

Just to update on this ring: sorry to disappoint you folks, it's stalled(sigh)and i don't really know if i feel upset or annoyed,or both. Bunrab has very kindly offered to continue it with his/her copy to make sure you all get to read it, as well as organizing rings for the next two books in the series. Go on over here to see if Crewel World ring mark two manages to complete its journey:
