Simply an incredible book. The story traces the life of a dwarf woman coming of age in Germany in the early 20th century. In addition to being an excellent story, the book offers excellent perspectives on what it must have been like to be in Germany during the horrors of World War II.
Passing on to arugh48187 in a trade. Hope you enjoy it!

Would you believe that as I was mailing off a package (books, of course) the postman said, "Have you checked your P.O. box today? There's a whole slew of packages there for you." This one was one of them. Thanks for the trade illinicheme. I can't wait to read it!!!
Well, after eons and eons of gathering dust on my Mt. TBR this one finally got read. And I must say that I rather enjoyed it. The beginning was kind of slow, but after Trudi met Max, it picked up. I found the insights in to WWII Germany fascinating. It never ceases to amaze me how humans can be so cruel and violent in their attempts at ethnic cleansing. Scary to think that even though we say that it can never happen again, it does. (Hello, can we say Guantanamo Bay.)
Although I was a little squeamish about reading about a dwarf (scars from reading "Geek Love" which I HATED), I did eventually get over it and begin to like Trudi and her neighbors. I did find all of the different people difficult to keep track of. Though, I think that that has more to do with strange German surnames and lack of first names because anytime a first name was used I would recognize the person, but throw a Frau or Herr in front of a surname and I was lost at least half the time.
Anyway, thanks for sharing and sorry it sat on my shelf for so long. I will pass it on soon.
