Privateers

This is the key book page for my grand tour project. I plan to read the entire series of books Ben Bova has written on the theme of human exploration of the solar system. The picture shows me in mid-August 2011 after I have managed to buy fourteen of the novels from Awesome Books. No doubt I will find the others eventually.
The Wikipedia entry for Ben Bova gives a suggested internal chronology (though the series lacks complete consistency) :
Powersat (2005)
Privateers (1985)
Empire Builders (1993)
Mars (1992)
Moonrise (1996; The Moonbase Saga, v. 1)

Of course, there will be more to come. It took me a while to get around to reading this book that I finally got to in May 2012 while in Hong Kong, where I had originally conceived the plan to read the entire Grand Tour. This deals with a very early part of the exploration and a period where the US has abandoned space entirely and it has become dominated by a grasping Soviet Union. The astronomical organisations who are overseeing space exploration remain weak and largely under the thumb of the Soviet Union.
