Amazon Editorial Review
From the "Sunday Times" bestselling author Gervase Phinn comes a fourth book of reminiscences about life as a Yorkshire Dales school inspector that will continue to delight and charm fans across the globe. Life for the Gervase Phinn is about to become not unlike the rambling hills of the Dales themselves - up and down and all over the place. After a routine school inspection - and a rather brutal report - culminates with a teacher being forced into early retirement, Gervase is left feeling his year hasn't exactly begun on the right foot. Then the news that his local school is closing down, the accidental demolishment of an historical church (disguised as a disused barn in his backyard), and an injured knee which puts him into hospital. And still Gervase manages to gallantly retain his sense of humour throughout, making this a delightful, charming and thoroughly entertaining read.
I read the first three in this series years ago andreally enjoyed them, this one was just as good.

Thank you so much for this wishlist book about a school inspector from the Yorkshire Dales. I've read the second book of this series and enjoyed it, lovely to see what happens next to Mr Phinn.
I've lot to read at the moment, but my dear old friend Elisabeth, 73, loved "Over the Hill and Dale" by the same author, so I decided she and this book deserved each other for the time being. I'll get the book back when she is finished with it and will comment her thoughts (she doesn't go anywhere near a computer).
Elisabeth, now 74, loved the stories and said she would read all the books by Mr Phinn she can lay her hands on. The book went next to her daughter Micke, who is a teacher.
Micke liked the stories but said this second book she read is pretty much repetition to the previous one as far as the job description goes. When he starts to tell about individuals or his personal life the story becomes interesting again. Micke was happy that Mr Phinn did marry the girl he had been pursuing.
The book returned to Kirjakko today with Elisabeth's and Micke's Easter visit.

Inspector Phinn returned home on Easter Holiday. According to Micke the Teacher we don't have similar school inspectors here; only if a serious complaint has been made against the school the authorities look into the matter.
Looking forward to joining Mr Phinn sometime soon.
