Lennie is a simple-minded man; he is a good farm hand, strong and able to take orders, but he does not recognize that he is also a liability to George, his fellow drifter who protects and exploits him in equal measure. Both share a fantasy of owning their own farm, a place to call home. But when the two men find work on a ranch in the Salinas valley, it becomes clear that Lennie, in pursuing his dreams, can follow only his most dangerous instincts.

A classic book and it is worth reading/hearing it. The end is, of course, definitely not happy, however everything points to the possibility that several people will be harmed or find even death until the story is told. I am sure, that the description of the workers' living conditions on the ranch are correctly told and therefore Steinbeck needs to be praised.
A book correctly put on the list of classic books to be read!
