Good Vibes & Groaning Bookshelves

Harbord House Pub OBCZ

Drop in or come to a meetup and you’ll find a new batch of recently registered reads: novels, biographies, histories, poetry collections, travelogues, cookbooks & more.

The books arrived by “special delivery” -- special because chances are, the book you pick from this downtown OBCZ is from the home bookshelf of the late Richard Landon.
Landon died in October 2011, and was Director of the Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto - one of the world’s greatest rare book libraries. He pretty much spent his entire career there, and under his direction, the collection grew from 40,000 to over 700,000 volumes.

Richard’s widow delivered the books in April, 2012 - knowing nothing about BookCrossing! I was contacted shortly after her visit by John Oakes, Harbord House pub owner and registration began. Creating “travelling books” from the shelves of a man with such a deep passion for the printed word just felt so right. Not too long ago, I received a wonderful JE for one of Richard’s books and the finder joined BookCrossing. For sure, Richard would be pleased.

PS: A Google search for Richard Landon, will lead you to a link to "The House that Richard Built."
