BookCrossing Goes to the Polar Bear Dip
by KarenBC
May 25, 2011
The annual polar bear dip happens at a lake just around the corner from me, so every year I go…to watch a young friend take part. Did I mention I live in NORTHERN Canada and the temperature was -8C/18F? When they have to cut through 20” of ice with chainsaws to get to the water there’s no way that I’m going in for a swim! I’ll stick with being part of the team cheering from the snow banks. This year BookCrossing went along to the Polar Bear dip – with 6 wild releases – all titles suited to the day don’t ya think?

(Each of the release notes has a picture of the book in the spot where it was left.)

The polar bear dip is hosted by the Ness Lake Bible Camp – to raise funds to allow children and teens to attend who might not otherwise be able to.
This year the organizers recycled some of the ice they cut out of the swimming hole and did a bit of ice sculpture in the shape of NLBC. I had to get a shot of the BC section of the letters…BC – BookCrossing!
