On my Dad's side I am Volga German. Dad was born in Galka, on the Volga River East Bank (Bergseite). The parish was Galka Parish and included Holstein, Dobrinka, Dreispitz, and Schwab.
On my Mother's side I am English, Irish, a bit of several others. Jack Hardy and Emlis Jane Brandon.
My husband is descended from a man who didn't have the money for his passage to the new world. Jonas Bronck, a Dutchman, paid the fare for four men, including my husband's ancestor, to accompany him on the "Fire of Troy" to Manhatten Island where he had purchased a large area of land. The four men had to work 2 years to pay off their debt - which they did by clearing the land for Bronck's Farm. Today the name has been shortened to - the Bronx. Descendants of the original 4 men have been asked to come clean it up once again - but have declined.
He is also proud to have some relationship to General Wm. T. Sherman - 8th cousin 4 times removed.
