It's a new month... time for some new bug fixes!
While Matt is still working on harnessing the book data that we all have contributed to, and making it available for searches, he's also been rather busy fixing other things, and even adding some nifty little features. Read all about it in this Announcements forum post.![Long Way Down](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/P/0140287027.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg)

Thank you for taking the time to visit us at Bookcrossing.
If this is your first visit to our site...welcome! I'm sure you'll find it fun!
All over the world people are following the journey of their books through BookCrossing, by making an entry you will be helping keep this book's unique history up-to-date.
as part of my never ending battle with Mt. TBR I am trying to register all of the books in my house to see how long they visit with me before heading out into the world to be enjoyed by others!

"A book is a mysterious object, I said, and once it floats out into the world, anything can happen. All kinds of mischief can be caused, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it. For better or worse, it's completely out of your control."
Paul Auster

Very funny, just misses the sap. That is, if another writer had chosen to write about four people who meet on top of a building because they all plan to kill themselves the story could easily become heartwarming and dismal. Hornby misses that trap by creating characters who are all flawed, who are no stars in any orbit, and by keeping the cynicism going.
Martin Sharp, former television presenter, is fresh out of prison from having sex with a fifteen-year-old. One of his insights is that prison is a far worse burden for someone in his class than for someone in the so-called criminal class. He just can't get back in, whereas the buddies of the lower class criminal will gladly welcome him or her back.
Maureen has spent her adult life caring for a son who has lost pretty much all of his faculties, is essentially a vegetable in a wheelchair. She feels an obligation to care for him because she's Catholic...something like that...
Jess is 18 and quite the stalker. After having sex with the unfortunate Chas, he goes on his way without saying goodby. She chases him down to demand an explanation and he keeps running.
JJ delivers pizza. He lost his band and his girlfriend a few years back and doesn't think there is any point in going on if he is not in a band.
The story is told from the point of view of each of the characters, in their language, which involves a lot of f---this and f---that and apologies to Maureen, the Catholic. The four do not particularly like each other yet feel bound somehow to see each other (and piss each other off) from time to time.
Is there a deliverance in there? Well...sort of...maybe...
