I've read one or two of the stories already and I enjoyed them. So, I look forward to reading all of them. I just have to find volume two.

It was great to see the development of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson from story to story. Holmes is a somewhat more complex character than I had originally believed. There was his constant struggle to avoid ennui and his use of cocaine to escape it, his relations with others, etc. Dr. Watson was not some comedic foil either, but a very intelligent man who kept after Holmes to stop using cocaine.

Also, some of the stories dealt with topics such as the: KKK, interracial marriage, Mormons, cryptography, etc.
