I found this softcover in this Little Free Library in Nashua NH while dropping off some books of my own. It's a novel inspired by the life of Johanna Bonger, Vincent van Gogh's sister-in-law - and the inheritor of his artworks after his death. I was more interested in the facts behind the novel, including the author's end-notes describing her challenges with the story: when she wrote it, Bonger's diaries were being kept private by the family, so she had to go to great lengths to conduct her research. (She notes that, soon after she finished the novel, the diaries were released online in public, searchable format.)
